(You can even play evolution cards even without all of their pre-evolutions in the deck.) A card knows whether it evolves from/to and which card it evolves from/to so the knowledge is there
But with the modern symbol sheet if your attack is ZWZWZW, then just cut out three Water symbols from the sheet and youre already good to go
Commander/EDH : This is a 100-card format where you can only have one of each card in your deck
Lets say, for example, that my opponent attacks me with [c]Bookwurm[/c], a 7/7 trample creature
But sometimes it does matter: if Rest in Peace is in play and you sacrifice a Blightsteel Colossus, choosing to apply the creatures own shuffle back in replacement effect first can save it from being exiled
If you control a Wizard, though, you get to choose two of these effects which can really help you on turns where you would otherwise mildly struggle.
